Artist #JamianJulianoVillani jars her audience by combining unexpected subjects in corrupt and uncanny compositions. Filtering mass culture through cartoonish forms, her canvases take on an eccentric life of their own while simultaneously appropriating characters, backdrops, and objects from existing sources, as seen here in "Haniver Jinx," 2015 (detail). This painting was recently acquired for our collection through our Young Collectors Council (YCC). Our curators work closely with #GuggenheimYCC members to engage with the work of emerging artists, whose varied assortment of works will add new dimensions to our multifaceted permanent collection of contemporary art. The acquired artworks represent a cross-section of the ways artists are engaging with materials, genres, and styles at this particular moment. Their practices span the contemporary array, from video and film works by Hito Steyerl and Amie Siegel; to three-dimensional and sculptural works by Eva Kotátková and Alice Channer; to painting by the likes of Jennie C.
