How does a museum integrate a global view into its curatorial mission? In today's @ニューヨーク・タイムズ, learn how curators are thinking outside of the West to embrace the origins of Modernism in Asia, Africa, South America and beyond. "It has both reflected and anticipated the age we live in. Globalization has created a new consciousness about the interconnected world and given us tools to think about art histories from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, challenging a certain parochialism in the art world and redrawing the way we write art history.”—@alexandramunroe, Senior Curator of Asian Art at the Guggenheim.

Installation view: Motonaga Sadamasa, Work [Water], 1956/2011. Sadamasa was commissioned to recreate this work for our rotunda during #Gutai: Splendid Playground in 2013, where he hangs common, polyethylene tubes of varying widths filled with brightly-colored water between the rotunda levels, making giant brushstrokes out of catenaries in the open air that catch the sunlight. ? @dmheald
