There have long been rumors that Bob Dylan had stashed away an extensive archive. Now a private trove of his work — lyrics, correspondence, recordings, films and photos dating back to his earliest days as an artist — has come to light. The archive of 6,000 pieces was recently acquired by a group of institutions in Oklahoma. (Cost? An estimated $15 million to $20 million.) “It is clear that the archives are deeper and more vast than even most Dylan experts could imagine, promising untold insight into the songwriter’s work,” writes the reporter Ben Sisario, who had a chance to preview the collection. With voluminous drafts from every phase of Dylan’s career, the collection offers a comprehensive look at the working process of a legendarily secretive artist, who is now 74. The @ニューヨーク・タイムズ staff photographer William C. Eckenberg made this portrait of #BobDylan in the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ studio in 1963.
