This is the Jungle, Seattle’s biggest homeless camp. The camp — 3 ragged miles stitched along the underbelly of Interstate 5 — is so dangerous that if a fire broke out there today, firefighters wouldn’t be allowed in without an armed police escort. Since January, when an attack there left 2 people dead and 3 others wounded, the camp has become harder for the city’s residents to ignore. State lawmakers are considering closing it by erecting a razor-wire fence, at a cost of $1 million. @mhansonphoto photographed the Jungle while on #nytassignment.
