Justice Antonin Scalia was nominated to the Supreme Court in 1986, and his legal theories, vivid writing and outsize personality made him a conservative leader during his tenure that spanned almost 3 decades. This Saturday, the conservative justice was found dead, at 79, on a West Texas resort. Justice Scalia will be remembered not only as a champion of originalism — the theory of constitutional interpretation that seeks to apply the understanding of those who drafted and ratified the Constitution — but also for taking no prisoners in his caustic dissents. Here, the photographer @zachgibson5 offers a rare look inside the courtroom of the Supreme Court, where black drapes can be seen hanging over Justice Scalia's chair.
