Tech Tip Tuesday: Yup it's (past) that time of the week again! This time I've got a philosophy that has helped me find my way when projects are about to go sideways due to weather or events out of my control. It's called 'the silver lining'. Now I know you've heard the phrase but let me share a practical example in terms of photography. I live in Salt Lake City and it kicks ass 99% of the time. But every winter we get a couple weeks of gnarly weather inversion (like most valleys in the west do) that just sucks. Now being down in the fog this week in SLC wouldn't be my first choice, but if you pop above the inversion you are catapulted to one of the most epic views of the mountains above town that I've ever seen. If I was a photographer and I was in Salt Lake this week I'd be calling a local Cessna pilot and figuring out how to get myself into crazy spots to photograph a series at sunrise and sunset (If you played your cards right I'm sure the national media would pick it up). Or maybe building a ski jump just above the inversion line for an awesome chance at a cover for Powder. Just imagine the personal projects you could pull together... If there was a silver lining with the inversion this is it. I take this attitude with me on all of my shoots. Whether it's rain, snow, cold, fog, wind, broken gear, long hikes... You name it. There is almost always a silver lining and usually it's pretty sweet. So instead of getting upset when Mother Nature doesn't cooperate, change your perspective and go find it. #techtiptuesday #iphoneonly
