The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson was just 27 years old on September 22, 1969, when he led a rally of 4,000 people in Chicago, calling for an end to discrimination in the construction trades. “We were just fighting regular racial segregation, except it was segregation in the unions – as it was in the schools, as it was in the police and fire departments,” he recalled recently in an interview with @ニューヨーク・タイムズ. “It was as hostile as anything we faced in the South, maybe even more so.” During #blackhistorymonth, we’ll be sharing unpublished photos from the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ’s archives that reveal major moments in black history. The @ニューヨーク・タイムズ staff photographer Gary Settle took this photograph. Visit the link in our profile to read our full interview with #JesseJackson. #UnpublishedBlackHistory
