A male #capeweaver pauses to check me out during mid construction of building one of many nests in a blue gum tree in the #cedarbergwildwrness area in @southafrica. I took this photo in July 2006 while on a climbing trip/assignment in South Africa, my first time to the country. I got inspired to photograph birds after reading a local magazine called #AfricaBirdsAndBirding. I was blown away with the photography and the diversity of birds in the magazine and it sparked an interest in me to start looking more actively for birds while hiking to the climbing areas each day. I started stopping and doing my best to photograph these lighting fast and skittish animals. One of my friends, @menagerieclimb pointed out a tree of neasting weavers near the house we were staying in and over the next month I spent a lot of my free time taking photos here on down time and rest days. I would climb the tree and stay as still as possible for hours on end, shooting away. I even started rigging off camera lighting into the tree, it would take hours to rig. It's fun looking back, I enjoyed the challenge and that feeling has stayed with me nearly 10 years later.
