Photo by Jeff Gusky @hiddenwwi | Located beneath a farm field in a former WWI underground city, this American flag was carved in 1918 by a soldier from New England’s Yankee division. This place is vast, with over 100 acres underground. It’s a world frozen in time and is loaded with carvings, inscriptions and objects from a hundred years ago lying on the ground as if 100 years ago was yesterday. On its stone walls one sees expressions of humanity by soldiers facing the world’s first modern mass destruction.
