On the fourth anniversary of his passing, we remember the many contributions made to our sport by Surfline founder and chief forecaster, Sean Collins. This was a man who loved surfing and whose passion for surf forecasting helped wave riders around the world Know Before They Go for three decades. In a world long before the Internet, his pursuit of surf science and surf forecasting did not come easy. In fact, many believed it was impossible to accurately predict the arrival of swells to specific locations, but, oh….how Sean loved to prove those people wrong, which he did swell after swell, year and after year, decade after decade. Anyone who has gotten in a car or hopped on a plane to score great waves based off a forecast should take a moment today and give a nod to Sean — we know that’s what we’ll be doing.
