i wandered the still dark cobbled lanes of the old city this morning observing those already hard at work inside shops and stalls- men setting out produce fish meat cheese bread and of course pasta - each artfully laying out his window display one man bid me good morning and we chatted pleasantly as he lay out small bunches of grapes and lettuce leaves between cuts of meat & the sausages he had made fresh in the wee hours of today- his deep respect for the work and the food showing as we talked -
i was the first customer of the day at the bakery and left camera in one hand & a beautifully wrapped panettone under my arm - not sure it's a typical breakfast here in bologna but it sure is a delicious one
