The latest update from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center at 1200z on Oct 30th classified Tropical Cyclone Chapala as a major category 4 storm with max sustained winds up to 130kts and gusts to 160kts. Models indicate that this storm may strengthen a little more over the next 12hrs or so, potentially reaching category 5 status, while tracking westward toward the Arabian Peninsula (specifically Yemen). Fortunately, this storm is forecast to steadily weaken after 24hrs as it makes its final approach on Yemen. All the latest updates on the storm can be found at the JTWC. Special note – No tropical cyclones of 35kts or greater have made landfall in Yemen since 1980.
