Photo by @edkashi / @viiphoto 6/16/06…Obama Flow Station…3:30pm…We have been arrested at gunpoint by a Nigerian JTF [Joint Task Force] protecting this Agip flow station. We were photographing the river without permission…Elias [Courson – fixer] and I were stopped along with a boat driver, boatman, local guide and a brother and sister from a nearby tiny village who were hitching a free ride to town. We warned them they would be delayed while I did my work , but we never imagined this. Poor souls. […] 6/19/06 …it was over, and I could taste freedom again among Nigerian friends who had proven their commitment and goodness. For them it was a human rights issue and further emboldened me in my understanding of what is at stake here and why my work must continue.
