#Afghanistan, #Kabul.
On the first day of spring, celebrated like New Year’s Day in Afghanistan, central Asia and Iran, I wandered through the town’s huge cemetery on a hillside. Irregularly shaped tomb stones, like menhirs bursting from the earth, indicated the presence of the dead: those who fell in the endless battles which have shaken the country, those, victims of fratricidal struggles, and all the others. I was not alone in having chosen the cemetery to celebrate spring, life after the long winter. There were a great many families. Children played and ran in their party clothes. I caught him smiling behind a balloon his parents had bought him for the occasion; a fleeting poetic moment betwixt memories of war and the present peace.
