Photo by @Gerd Ludwig. Leipzig’s Völkerschlachtdenkmal, or Battle Of The Nations Monument, is mirrored in its man-made lake. The monument memorializes the victory of the allies (English, Austrians, Prussians, Russians, Swedish) over Napoleon at the Battle of Leipzig in October 1813. With 500 steps leading up to the its platform, it stands 91 meters (nearly 300 ft) high and is the city's most famous landmark, as well as the tallest monument in Europe. Once Hitler's favorite location for rallies while in Leipzig, the Völkerschlachtdenkmal is said to stand on the spot of the bloodiest fighting where Napoleon saw his army destroyed, and includes an artificial lake symbolizing the blood and tears shed during the war.
