Photograph by @remibenali. Tanzania. Wildebeests crossing the track between the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro. The Serengeti is at great risk now. The country has lost 2/3 of its elephants in the last 5 years, from 109,051 to 43,330. The poachers are getting closer and closer to the Serengeti and it is said that they will aim soon to the lions teeth and claws. Some politicians wish also to evict the Maasai in hoping to gain nearly 1500 km2 (580 square miles) of land at Loliondo, a district contiguous to the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro and a main corridor for the annual Great migration of wildebeest. And to do what? To lease it to the Oterllo Business Corp (OBC), a luxury hunting company based in Dubai which manages already a hunting field there that they want to enlarge! Ending up on Oterllo's land by mistake, are the animals of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro shot one after each other like at a fairground stall? Probably. Few info leaks from one of the worlds most exclusive and secretive hunting company reserved for Arab royalty and High-flying businessmen. According to the local Maasai villagers, the hunters use powerful spotlights to locate the animals the night, carcasses to lure wildlife into a trap (as with Cecil the Lion) or initiate fires to reroute the animals to the hunting field. It is also said that they use machine guns. OBC has the license to trap the animals alive and to send them to the Emirates. Boeing 747 planes are seen landing on Ortello's private airport. Lions, cheetahs, leopards are exported to the United Arab Emirates... Fortunately the infamous Loliondo scheme has been scrapped for the moment by the Tanzanian Prime Minister but for how long a politic decision will last? Meanwhile, OBC still runs its killing field since 1992. Tomorrow is time that we move to action, helping to protect our wilderness, here @thephotosociety and on my feed @remibenali. In Honor of Cecil the Lion. #Africa #africa #serengeti #ngorongoro #nature #wildlife #beauty #oterllo #trophyhunting #saveourwilderness #ripcecilthelion
