It extends over 23 miles, and since 1969, it was listed by Guinness Book of World Records as the longest bridge over water in the world. In response to the challenge from China’s Jiaozhou Bay Bridge in 2011, Guinness created two categories for bridges over water: continuous and aggregate, and the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway remains the longest continuous bridge.
