Photo by @hellokrisdavidson — While formidable, and somewhat inaccessible, the beauty of the wetlands is truly wondrous and magical, with a hint of danger. Pictured here: Cypress tree "salvage pirate" and furniture builder, Hamilton Hall, searches for old cypress logs in the Atchafalaya Basin by feeling the swamp floor. Hall finds and recovers submerged cypress wood and builds furniture with the logs. It is illegal to cut down the wetland cypress trees now — as such, the old, submerged wood — remnants from logging days at the turn of the century — found by brave swamp scavengers such as Hall, remains a rare commodity.
