"This was around the time that the #RollingStones ran into some financial difficulties. Back taxes to the British government. Apparently their accountant wasn’t as proactive as he might have been. Anyway, all of them owed substantial sums to the Crown at this point. They’d been a success for about 10 years and the government were going to seize their assets. So they did this tour of England and left for the south of France as tax exiles. They added the Marquee show at the last minute to film for U.S. television. And then — boom! — it was off to Nice.
