Photo: @rezaphotography | Military Marches #Xinjiang #China In Xinjiang, in Eastern Turkestan, the festivities surrounding “Independence Day” in this region, annexed in 1955, were in full swing. Having been in the region for several months, I was able to evaluate the extent to which the local populations of #Tajik, #Uyghur, and#Kazakhs were under the tight control of the central powers. On that day, I could only bear witness to the show of force of the Chinese during this seemingly innocuous military parade. In all my images, my camera angle is crucial. When I photograph, my whole body is moving: I climb up, I bend over, I dance, I’m constantly moving about, I sit down, I lie flat on the ground. For this photo, it was in the latter position that I was able to capture the sky in the background of the soldiers and get the soldier’s whole leg in the foreground, with the white lines on the ground and their guns held high at an angle. The overall effect created a triangular perspective and a three-dimensional effect. I also used a flash. It is barely noticeable, but thanks to its discreet use, we can see the faces of the soldiers beneath their helmets. The use of a flash also accentuated the band of yellowish orange on their pants, which became fluorescent. This line complements the line of the rifles.
