Photograph by @remibenali. Today is the World Lion Day 2015. An elephant passes behind a pride of lions resting in the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. The animals are there, a few meters from your car, exposed to any hunter who could shoot them so easily. And yet, they trust you, undisturbed by your presence. What would be the point to kill these magnificent beasts? Are we in imminent danger? Do we need to eat them? How can one live today with a decapitated head hanging on a wall? I live in the south of France, with the border on the Camargue, one of the biggest marshland areas in Europe (20 times the surface of Paris) where the great Rhone River melts slowly into the Mediterranean Sea. Hunting is a passionate activity around here. I understand the need to spend time in the wilderness of the swamps, cooking around the fire, tracking the wild-boars at night or hiding before dawn for the passage of the ducks. But photography hunting offers the exact-same-thrills! The photographer tracks them but leaves them alive and free for another man to see. What is the message we want to pass on to our children? What do we leave behind? What should be our spiritual heritage? Don't we share this planet with the other life forms? From a #storytelling of a Photo Safari this month on my feed @remibenali. #Africa #Tanzania #Ngorongoro #ngorongoro #worldlionday #lions #ripcecilthelion #saveourwilderness #lifeisnotasquare
