"If somebody told you that #DefLeppard was a heavy-metal band, you’d probably dismiss them as a bunch of rude louts who can’t write their own names and who bite the heads off small animals. Okay. Now, imagine five young men, all with neatly styled, shoulder-length hair, and all wearing nice clothes that their mothers could’ve selected for them — scarves, clean, white pants or jaunty little running shorts with a Union Jack design and trim-fitting but tasteful knit shirts. 'That’s just the way we are,' explains Joe Elliott, Leppard’s twenty-three-year-old lead singer, in a thick but charming northeastern English accent. 'We never wanted to look like tramps. Some of these bands, like Motorhead, just sort of turn up in their car-mechanic overalls, with unwashed hair. To me, that is really abusing the audience.'"
