One day after its successful flyby of #Pluto, @NASA’s #NewHorizons spacecraft sent back the first close-up images of the dwarf planet. This image, which was taken on early on Tuesday morning, shows mountains up to 11,000 feet high on a small portion of the surface. The absence of craters indicates that Pluto’s surface is no more than 100 million years old. New Horizons traveled nine years and three billion miles to study Pluto. More images are stored on the spacecraft, but it will take months to transmit them. For now, follow @NASA to see a short video with more information about the location of this #closeup photo from the #PlutoFlyBy.
