And to have the Dead's final three shows, called 'Fare Thee Well,' in my hometown of Chicago, at Soldier Field — how lucky can a guy get? There was such anticipation for these shows, over months into weeks into days. How will they sound without Jerry usually perched stage left? What will the weather be like? And the crowds — estimated 70,000 strong — how will they behave? All questions answered comfortably. Calmly. And with such grace. Weather: perfect. Band: in peak form with their gigantic catalog of songs. And to see 70,000 devoted Deadheads on the final night all dancing and singing in unison to my favorite Dead song 'Estimated Prophet' brought tears to my eyes.
