I received this important note today that I want to share.
“Hi, I am 13 yrs old and I have a 2 yr old cat named Luna. My parents said that they are going to get her declawed next week because we got some new curtains and she already climbed up them. I told them that she is a living creature and that you can always spray her with some water to get her down. I say that cats are more important than curtains and they shouldn’t do something like that. They said that she is getting the laser removal and that it is better. I really don’t believe it because I have seen so many things about how bad declawing is. My dad said it is declawing her front paws or giving her away. What should I do?” I wrote her back and told her to let her parents know that laser declawing is just as bad as the guillotine blade method and that it causes 4th degree burns when it sears through the toe joint. Laser declawing is no better than the guillotine blade and that in the two days after the surgery the laser actually has more complications. Laser declaw has the same negative consequences as the blade.
There are many humane options, a cat tree next to the curtains, nail trimming, and soft paws.

Remember, it is important that we respectfully educate people who aren’t aware of the humane alternatives and ALSO who were NOT told by their veterinarians about the horrible consequences that laser declaw causes. A laser machine costs around $45,000. The AVMA veterinarians who use them to declaw, like Aldenvet.com and ParkerCountyVet.com (2 blog entries), are purposely misleading their clients about laser declawing and touting it as “gentle, safe, humane, and pain and blood free”, and need to pay back those machines.
Hopefully we can save Luna from this horrible life changing surgery and let her lead a healthy life with parts of her body that she was born with and that are so important for her health and well-being. #Brave #DoTheRightThing #SpecialPerson #citythekitty #cooltohaveclaws
