Athletes at the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships (#GJNC) are having a blast testing their jump heights while attacking a volleyball, all with the help of a small device produced by VERT (@VERTCLUB), a USA Volleyball supplier. VERT is a device worn near the waist of an athlete either by the VERT training clip or integrated within an article of clothing such as the VERT active waistband. VERT measures your jump and transmits the data to a smart phone or tablet. Sarah Johnson, who plays for MVA 14 Elite in the North Country Region, feels the device is fun, but practical at the same time. "It was fun and it was hard. It made you use your legs and concentrate on that. It would help a lot doing it a lot at every practice. It could get your vertical up faster." As part of VERT's booth at the GJNC, athletes can immediately see how high they have jumped through scoreboards placed in the booth. In a normal situation, the height data transmits directly to a phone or table with downloadable VERT app or VERT coach app. For Annie Leonard (@annieeleonardd) of Carolina Juniors Volleyball 14 Red, she surprised herself when she found out she made the elite club of 30 inches jumped. "I am so surprised at my height jumped. I have never done this before. It looks so intimidating. It was really challenging. I was just thinking about what my coach says about how to jump higher - to get low and use your arms." The U.S. Women's National Team uses the same VERT technology in its gym and during matches as the device also tracks the number of jumps an athlete has and how each jump is, which helps monitors for over-use injuries and #humansofvb
