Arife Kayrak, 47, lost her husband, Gungor, in the massive fire that tore through a coal mine in Soma, #Turkey last May. Leaving 301 men dead, it was the deadliest industrial disaster in modern Turkish history. One year later, as widows observed the grim anniversary, anger toward the government had barely receded. @taratwphoto photographed Arife, who lives in a village that lost a number of men. “She was so soft spoken during the interview, but her pain was still obviously raw,” @taratwphoto said. “I was really touched by her, and when I looked at the photo I felt like the empty part of the floor was for her husband.”
