#TBT View of our 1965 exhibition "Masterpieces of Modern Art," known today as the Thannhauser Collection. On the anniversary of renowned art dealer and collector Justin K. Thannhauser’s birthday, we celebrate his gift of art that expanded the historical range of the Guggenheim’s collection, including masterpieces by Cezanne, Picasso, Matisse, Manet, Monet, Degas, Gauguin, and many others (link in bio). Throughout his life, Thannhauser vigorously promoted progressive artists and their art, including the impressionists, the post-impressionists, the Italian Futurists, and contemporary German practitioners such as Vasily Kandinsky and Franz Marc.
