My friends and supporters,
I have really bad news. The Oregon Bill HB3494, which would allow declawing as usual and prohibit local governments in Oregon from banning declawing, PASSED today (35-18) in the Oregon House. It still must be passed by the Senate so we have some glimmer of hope because the Representative is supposedly willing to make this positive for cats. Let’s hope we can believe that their intentions are best so let’s wait until Monday to know for sure.
This bill , if passed in the Senate as is, will make declawing just like it is now. The AVMA, which is the guiding light for veterinarians, now says declawing should only be a last resort. These are the faces of the “last resort” my friends. These poor kitties are only a small sample the declawing horrors that are going on behind closed doors at veterinary practices, all for the sake of someone’s furniture. Photos that are shared to the world by veterinary professionals who declaw cats and cat owners who do declaws.
We all have seen the advertisements and promotions for cheap, painless and gentle declaws from veterinarians and we know the sad truth. I’ve spared you any more grief by taking most of the RED color out of some of these photos.
There is NO painless, gentle, blood free, safe, or humane declaw and we know it.
