(Photo by #TimHetherington/Magnum Photos. Libya. April, 2011). It was four years ago today, and not long after this picture was taken, that the world lost photographer Tim Hetherington. He was on the front lines of Misrata, covering the 2011 Libyan War when he was killed by shrapnel from a mortar shell. His family and friends were well aware that he was preparing his application to Magnum before his death, and so, the cooperative accepted his application posthumously, and has represented his work ever since. But "representing" Hetherington is a sisyphean task of sorts, as beyond the impressive body of work he created during his career, he possessed an utterly unique energy, philosophy and voice as a photographer, filmmaker and man. So, for the next week on Instagram, we'll be featuring an edit of some of Tim Hetherington's pictures, along with a few quotes and broader sentiments that highlight elements of his outlook on visual storytelling and the world.
