The bones of victims of the 1915 #Armenian genocide on display at a small memorial chapel in Antelias, #Lebanon. During World War I, the leaders of the Ottoman Empire worried that its Christian Armenian population was planning to align with Russia, a primary enemy. So they embarked on what historians have called the first genocide of the 20th century. Nearly 1.5 million Armenians were killed. But in #Turkey, most people don’t talk about it. “How do you photograph the memory of something that has been attempted to be scrubbed from the place?” said @bdentonphoto, who shot photos for a story about the 100th anniversary of the massacre, which is April 24. #nytweekender
