Photo: @Robert Clark | While editing through my archives, I came across a polaroid I’d taken of #SinornithosaurusMillenii , or ‘Dave’, while shooting a Dinosaur Behavior story for @ナショナルジオグラフィック.

Dave’s an interesting specimen because when it was first described, they didn’t want to name it due to the poor state of the bones in the specimens. Because the bones broke in the process of splitting the fossil slabs, it obscured the scientist’s ability to properly identify the skeleton until over a decade had passed. In 2011, it was concluded by scientists #PhilSenter, Turner, Makovicky and Norell that ‘Dave’ was just an adolescent S. Millenii rather than the various other species proposed in the previous ten years.
