Ms. Mouskouri visited Madagascar to review UNICEF-supported programmes and to draw added attention to the challenges and constraints faced by the country’s vulnerable children and families. Madagascar remains one of the poorest countries in the world: 91% of the population live on less than US $2.00 a day.
