A tram winds its way through the streets of Calcutta. Dirty, hot, smoggy, friendly, it is a place so humid that even the buildings seem to sweat.

I spent a long time searching for a way to capture the energy and vitality of this most unique of cities. Fortunately, I was welcomed into an apartment above street level by a young couple. After taking this image I stayed for a cup of tea.
