"Janet set aside her dreams of being a jockey when her father, Joe Jackson, who managed and was the driving force behind his sons' group, asked if she wanted to join the Jacksons' traveling nightclub show. She was seven years old. 'My dad asked me if I wanted to sing in the show, the Vegas act,' Janet says. 'I said, "Yeah, OK." I was so shy at the time, I can't believe he asked me. Being in front of this huge audience for the first time, I could easily have gotten stage fright, but thank God I didn't. It would have ruined the whole show....
