Happy Birthday John Hancock, the noted naturalist, ornithologist, taxidermist and landscape architect would have been 107 today. He is considered the father of modern taxidermy. He introduced the style of dramatic preparation in taxidermy. One of his famous works "Struggle with the quarry" depicted a falcon attacking a heron which held an eel. The above work is another one of his many white falcons that he became “obsessed with”, completing nearly 40 of them.
Hancock was born in Newcastle upon Tyne. John & his brother, the naturalist Albany Hancock, who together started the #GreatNorthMuseum, in NewCastle on Tyne.
