Lisa Rands warming up on "Roof on Fire" (v5) in South Africa's #Rocklands, May 2006. When I first saw this line I immediately knew how I wanted to photograph it, but how was the real issue. Organizing the lighting to get under the roof wasn't simple, it took the better part of 3 hours due to the cramped area and Cliff on the other side of the arch. But I like a good puzzle. The blasting sun behind Lisa was also a problem so I decided to use a technique I had been using for about a year, and one I had originally seen my friends @joeyterrill and @daveblackphoto use. These two guys are truly masters of light and huge inspirations to me. The technique is simply using a tungsten white balance, ie very blue white balance, and using orange CT gels on your flashes/strobes. The result is a warm scene anywhere your light source (flashes) hits, and a very blue ambient surrounding where the flash isn't hitting. In this instance it creates a kind of full moon style hue. #dedicatedDecade
