December 2007: my good friend @bookofsamuel called me up to see if I wanted to go shoot some ice climbing, which I of course said yes too. Colorado was having a banner year for ice. At the time, Sam was new to ice climbing but was already leading WI5+ and M11 routes. That's just Sam, incredibly talented athlete and strong headed. We shot here at the Fang, in Vail CO, the day prior to this photo, scouting it out in hopes of lighting it with big strobes. That night I told Sam and his partner Tony Angeles, that we could definitely do it, but it was going to take a lot of work and rigging. These are two guys that never shied away from hard work and the next day we set out with just over a 100 pounds of lighting, tripods and strobe batteries, pre-ion lithium and were much heavier then. The rigging took about 4 hours and then we waited for the light to fade for mood. When it was time to shoot I turned on all the gear only to find that the cold had nearly killed all the batteries. We had just enough power to shoot 8 frames, which I'm grateful for. Here's one of them. #3 - #DedicatedDecade
