Photograph by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz Perhaps the fastest growing part of South Florida is Sunny Isles, a barrier island just north of Miami Beach, with high rises going up right on the beachfront. To protect these luxury hotels and condos from rising sea level and storm surges, the lower floors are mostly reserved for parking or non-inhabited uses. But if the land-based infrastructure (roads/water/sewer/power) is destroyed even the floors above the waterline will be uninhabitable. From a story in the 2.2015 edition of National Geographic Magazine that takes a serious look at how South Florida will fare with rising sea levels. @ナショナルジオグラフィック @thephotosociety
