Recently, Jill and I joined my mom and brother to go on an eagle watching tour on the lake near our home. It was so cool to hear all the interesting facts about our national bird: their 6+ foot wingspan, hollow bones for flight, laser-like focus for visual hunting, and, not to mention, the fact that bald eagles aren’t actually called bald because they appear to have nothing up top, but because of the white color of the feathers on their head.
In 1782, upon the adoption of the great seal of the United States, the American bald eagle became the national emblem. But, perhaps my favorite bald eagle fact is their fidelity. Bald eagles will stay with their original mate until one dies. Then, after a mourning period, they will find a new mate. What an awesome lesson to learn from our national emblem. #7monthswithmybestfriend #USA
