The picture: Meroe Pyramids, Sudan. #Africa
The story behind it: "Sudan suffers from a dreadful press and very few people visit the country but for me this is one of my favourite travel destinations. Not just are the people incredibly warm and generous but the desert sands along the River Nile hide endless historical treasures. For example few people realise that Sudan is home to more pyramids than Egypt! The pyramids of Meroe are the most famous historical site in Sudan and probably the most beautiful. It seems that every evening this beautiful orange light glows off the sands that are slowly devouring the pyramids and to make it all the more romantic in my several visits I have never yet seen another foreign tourist at Meroe." - Stuart Butler
