With the help of a Guggenheim fellowship, Magnum's #BruceDavidson spent 1961-1965 capturing the Civil Rights Movement in the American South. He rode with the Freedom Riders, marched with the marchers, and he photographed #MartinLutherKing's unique place at the heart of the cause. Davidson once said in an interview: "I saw something in his eyes that surprised me. It was the eyes of someone who knew that they were going to die soon. I’ve seen it in cancer patients, the final resignation. I felt that that was what King was feeling." Here is an image of MLK made by Davidson in Montgomery, Alabama, as he led a group of marchers to #Selma. It's photographs like these that help us mourn MLK's death and, of course, celebrate his life. #MLKBirthday
