Great to run into, surf, and talk board design with #KeoneDowning yesterday. Most people think of him as a big wave guy but he's every bit as passionate about designing equipment for small waves and still pushing his own levels. Keoni won the #EddieAikau event in 1990 in what everyone considers the best #Waimea conditions of all time. Most people probably remember #BrockLittle putting on the performance of a lifetime that day...pushing big wave levels (with @tonymoniz), pulling into a huge barrel and falling out the end and then eating it on one of the biggest waves ever caught at the bay...but it was Keone who owned the day and made every wave he caught. His father, #GeorgeDowning, has been the event's director since inception and the buck stops with him and his direct relationship with the offshore buoys that forecast the swell for the Hawaiian Islands. Needless to say, Keone has #SaltwaterInHisVeins. He also sent me to a #WitchDoctor once when I was injured but that's for a different time. #ThrowingShakas with a little #NorthShoreHistory. #KeoneWouldGo #EddieWouldGo
