Dating cave paintings in Altamira Cave, Spain

Jose Antonia Lasheras (left) Alistar Pike (middle) and Dirk Hoffman (right) prepare a uranium (UT) series dating sample from the Altamira cave ceiling. Pike and Hoffman have meticulously dated cave art in Spain using a refined mineral based technique. What they have found is that the paintings are much older than previously thought. The newest evidence suggests that when humanity left Africa over 40,000 years ago we carried with us a fully developed sense of visual creativity.
