Photo by @Tim Laman. I captured this explosive liftoff of a male Mallard last month at Great Meadows in Concord, Massachusetts. Mallards are such powerful fliers that they can perform a near vertical takeoff from the water. And aside from their beauty in their own right, they make great practice subjects for action wildlife photography. Here I was doing some test shooting with the new Canon 7D Mark II camera, which did a great job of autofocus tracking on this fast moving subject. I froze the action with a 1/6000 sec shutter speed, enabled by using a high ISO of 1600. #Massachusetts, #ducks, @thephotosociety, @natgeocreative, @Tim Laman.
