As temperatures dip and what some people from the lower 49 states in the USA might call #extreme #weather, I am reminded of a picture I shot on #SevernayaZemlya, one of the northernmost #polar archipeligos in #Russia. Here, #Arctic #Danish #dogsledder Ulrik Vedel from #Denmark, prepares to set up a tent at minus 55 degrees (F,) wondering if polar bears are lurking nearby. Not long after this picture was taken Ulrik dived into the #polar seas to rescue a dog that broke through thin ice on the #ArcticOcean and almost died of #hypothermia, himself. Just changing #film was enough to nearly frostbite my own fingers. Shot on assignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック. @natgeocreative #expeditions #adventure #cold
