Photo by @ChrisBickford on assignment for @National Geographic Travel. Another take from the bonfire at Rosemary Beach. This one is perhaps my personal favorite, but you really have to see it full-size and full-frame to appreciate it. You can see a somewhat larger version of it, with the full horizontal frame, at NatGeo's On Assignment blog ( http://onassignment.nationalgeographic.com/2014/12/02/playing-with-fire-approach-to-lighting/ ), which also gives a few details about the "subtractive" approach I took to finding the light and the human element to the scene, and what it is about this photo that I think makes it a cut above the rest. What I didn't write in the post, which is pretty tech-y, is how friendly, fun, and welcoming the Rosemary Beach Crowd was. After I'd wrapped up shooting and the kids and parents left, we sat for another hour or two just enjoying the fire and talking about life. I learned a lot about the history of Rosemary Beach, which is quite interesting. Thanks Ross and Heidi for the beer, the cheesesteak, and the good conversation!
