Happy #Thanksgiving from the Guggenheim! From our archives, we found this Thanksgiving guest list from the Guggenheim’s first director Hilla Rebay. Hilla welcomed a large group of colleagues and others to her table, including Orrin Riley, the founder of the Guggenheim’s Conservation Department; Hannes Beckmann, an artist who led the Guggenheim’s Photography Department; Robert Mates, who worked under Beckmann and succeeded him as the head of the Photography Department; and Jean Xceron, an artist and long-time employee at the Guggenheim, first as a guard and later as a caretaker of the art collection.
