During the 1980s and 1990s Chinese contemporary art was predominately known for its cultural-specific context, where the emphasis was on "Chineseness" and Chinese identity as part of the overall discourse of contemporary Chinese art. On December 2, Guggenheim curator Thomas Berghuis will examine the development of contemporary art in China and its global turn, as China angled to position itself at the center of a new world order towards globalization after the turn of the 21st century.
