Every time I long for adventure, I think of a phrase I read in an amazing interview with Ricardo Hubbs, Cultural Creative Director at Shambhala (google his name, fourth link from the top). He mentions “Traveling in place”. Where we’re used to the idea of “traveling in space”, where we’re exploring new cultures and landscapes, “traveling in place” means we’re exploring our own communities, gardens, and our immediate environment. I have the opportunity to travel in place (less the garden) in my hometown for these coming many months, and this mindset makes it nothing less than exciting.

Interesting fact: about a year after I read this article, I serendipitously ran into Ricardo in a treehouse on the playa at Burning Man and it’s one of my most cherished encounters. ✌️
